Athena Adventure Rentals was born out of a simple frustration: Athens, Ohio is one of the most beautiful and bikeable towns in the state, and for years there has been nowhere to rent an ebike.

Whether you have always been curious about electric bikes or are just looking for a new way to experience this town, we are here for you. Athens is a place that rewards slowing down, and an ebike is the perfect way to do it.

We love ebikes because they just make sense. Compared to cars, they produce roughly 94% fewer emissions over their entire lifecycle. And here is the part that surprises most people: because ebikes require less food production per kilometer traveled, they actually have lower lifetime greenhouse gas emissions than conventional bicycles, despite the added emissions from electricity and battery manufacturing. Electric motors are simply that much more efficient than the human body at converting energy into motion. They also allow you to carry more while spending less- both money and physical energy- so you never have to leave the essentials behind. But don’t worry, it’s still exercise and great for your health!

There is a hidden Athens that car traffic cannot reach. Stick to the roads and you will miss the donkeys, chickens, and community garden at Good Earth Farm. You will miss the shaded stretch of bikeway between Eclipse and Athens proper, canopied by rolling hills with the Hocking River running alongside you, full of wildlife, wildflowers, mushrooms, and gaggles of geese that absolutely do not yield the right of way. You will miss the bridge access along the bikeway that puts you right at the doorstep of ACEnet, a local business incubator hub that you would simply never experience this way if by car, placing you right at the entrance of Community Food Initiative’s Discovery Garden. You will miss easy access to New to You Thrift, Miller's Chicken, Mauvette's Caribbean cuisine (grab a plate and head to West State Park just up the road for a proper picnic), and Little Fish Brewery. In the spring, cherry blossoms line the river. In the early weeks of summer, leading up to the solstice, the firefly displays along the path in Eclipse are something that has to be seen to be believed. Athens has a vibrant, layered community and a beauty that reveals itself slowly, and at about 15 miles per hour it is just right.
